Centenary Crime Prevention Unit Volunteers in Policing spend most Monday mornings contacting or visiting people who have unfortunately been victims of crimes, to offer support and security advice. They had a change of scenery this week when they joined with ViPs from Bayside Patrol area in visiting the Policelink operations centre at Zillmere.
While 000 continues to be the number to call in emergency situations, the Queensland Police Service Policelink service is available when there is no immediate threat and the offenders have left the scene. ViPs talk to victims of crime they visit or speak with and their morning at Policelink provided them with a more in-depth knowledge about the way Policelink works.
During the visit the ViPs were given some of the history of Policelink, the expectations of the service, how it operates and plans for the future. They also sat with Customer Service Operators during some calls to give them a better understanding about the nature of the calls and the way that callers react to being victims of crime.
The ViPs all came away from the visit with a better understanding of the important role that Policelink plays in the QPS operations.
Remember – if it is urgent or life threatening, call 000; if it is non-urgent call Policelink 131444.
